About
Caregivers Matter by GLSS is a helpful resource for those who are caring for loved ones with Alzheimer's and related dementias.
Caregivers Matter launched in 2017 under the direction of Debby Segil, program manager of the Family Caregiver Support Program at Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) for nearly 20 years. Working with her then 17-year-old granddaughter Alix and others, the team developed a suite of tools and tips to help individuals caring for someone living with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
The resources include a catchy ballad which caregivers are encouraged to listen to every day, so that it will stick in their memories to help remind them of the best practices for caring for someone with Alzheimer’s or related dementias.
Debby Segil was a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) with 40 years of experience in a broad range of clinical, marketing, and consulting positions in human services, health care, and hospital settings. She served as Program Manager of the Family Caregiver Support Program at Greater Lynn Senior Services (GLSS) since its inception in 2001 until her retirement in 2020. In that role, Debby was instrumental in laying the groundwork for, and overseeing the growth and development of, this federally funded program, which provides information, counseling, education, training, referrals to services, respite, and more to individuals who are providing care to an aging relative or a family member living with disabilities. Debby had particular expertise in understanding and working with people who were caring for a family member living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementias.
